This poem has been on my mind this week. I wrote it about relationship dynamics. I wasn’t in a relationship at the time but I was fragile and imagining having the support of a partner to help bear the weight of the world and the strain relationships can come under. Despite the hardships, I imagined a partnership that was worth staying in.
Life
So thinking man
While you’ve been sitting
Contemplating this broken cycle
I’ve been striving, hard at work
Raising the children.
Yes, you do bring home the bacon
And put food on our plates
But I put food into our mouths.
So while you wait for your eureka, light bulb flash moment
Your one solution to fix all our problems
I will continue to routinely speak in riddles and lament the day you were born.
Your broad shoulders were designed to carry my load
My frame breaks down after a few seasons.
So think away, because I’m thinking how good it will be when you eventually save the day.
I look at you and I don’t wonder, I know that you are my remedy
Do you get the same inspiration when our eyes meet?
I suppose we’re in this thing together
This you, this me, this us, this we, this mess that makes up this life!
