For Such a Time as This

Born for this time

I was reflecting on one of my early poems, “For Such A Time As This”, which opens with my feeling of being out of place.  As a young girl, I always felt that I was born in the wrong generation and that I didn’t belong.  I didn’t fit in.

Fast forward to present day, I’m feeling blessed about the doors and opportunities that are opening up for me.  I truly believe that I have a purpose to enact at this time.  And I believe that for everyone.  We are all born for a reason.  I hope that brings encouragement to your ears!!

For Such A Time As This

I used to want to be born in a different era

I never felt a child of my time

I’d rather be part of a more glamorous part of history

A different person, different body, different life.

I took a blow when my friend died

It shattered the foundations of my heart

The suffering experienced suffocating

The aching pain of loss chipping away at my soul.

As I grieved I felt guilt and blamed myself

For not showing more kindness while he was alive

For not sharing my heart and speaking into his life

For not meeting his needs in the difficult times.

And as I struggled to come to terms with why he had to die just now

I came to understand one thing

Before the Earth was formed God knew us

He formed us in our Mothers’ womb

He was there at the day of our birth and He alone knows when we will depart this Earth

Our lives are no mistake, accident or coincidence

And although our days are numbered, we are created for our times.

So I shift the focus from my loss; from what God has taken away

And I give thanks that He gave in the first place

That I had the privilege to know my friend and for him to be part of my life

And while on this earth he touched my heart

Leaving a lasting impression that will outnumber his days.

I take comfort for what I now believe to be true

And I draw strength from this knowledge

That I was born for such a time as this

Born to make a contribution to my world, born to make an impact in my relationships, born to be me, in this day, this generation.

So take heart in sorrow and hardship, my friend

For you also are born for this time

There is no-one like you

This is your moment, this is your time.
