SPRING HAS SPRUNG
It’s so nice to see and feel the days getting longer and brighter.
I wrote this poem, ‘Growth’, a couple of years ago to share at a Poetry Society in Luton. The theme was ‘Plants & Animals’.
At the time I was thinking about a relationship I had that was not working and my hope was that things would change. I was optimistic for growth in the way a plant or tree grows.
Growth
There was enough light
And enough warmth
For growth.
The air tenderly whispered
A constant stream of reassurance
Like a mother’s soothing song in the evening.
The soil lacked few nutrients
Water abounded
For advancement.
The optimum conditions present
For the life cycle to unfold
Like a scene in a perfect wonderland.
Feebly poised above ground
Beneath the earth their sturdy roots run deep
Capable of supporting twice their size.
Whilst they had some colour on their leaves
From their core they withered
Unable to live together.
Pruned of undesirable qualities
Discomfort weathered for the joy that lay ahead
To flourish was a question for the heart
To become what they were born to be, a matter for the mind
No indomitable obstacles withstood them
Love, beauty and purpose within reach.
Lovely Kat!
I love the audio tracks, they make you already amazing poems even better.
