The Adventures of a Norfolk Mole

We've been having some glorious weather (And some intermittent rain). Has spring sprung?

A quick Google search tells me that spring starts in a couple of weeks.  Usually around this time of year, I begin to think about the animal kingdom and the natural world as spring is synonymous to new life.

I had a beau who from time-time would set me  a poetry challenge, just for fun.  One day he told me that there were moles appearing in his garden.  Will I write a poem about it? Challenge Accepted!!!!

Here’s what I came up with.  I hope you enjoy it!!

The Adventures of a Norfolk Mole

Whilst I journeyed underground

I heard a peculiar and unfamiliar sound

Most days my eyes can hardly see

Anything in front of me

I felt daring, I felt brave

I smelt the freedom that I crave

I’ll follow the noise until I find its source

I’ll summon every ounce of force

To dig my way towards the tones

Even if it leads to uncharted zones

I listened and dug, dug and listened

My efforts never lessened

Spurred on my satisfying my curiosity

Quickened pace and velocity

I soon neared my destination

The place that held my fixation

I popped my head above the earth

Let me tell you for what it’s worth

Some may call my journey unwarranted

For me it will be forever celebrated

Above the soil, the boom and beat

The base, bash, bong, made me tap my feet

I turned to see other moles

Surfacing from their holes

All drawn by the music man

With a drum in either hand.
