The Crowd Cheers

We love you Luton, We do, Oh Luton, we love you!!!!

I couldn’t be more proud of the place I now call my home town, Luton.

Luton, the town that year after year tops the polls for the worst place to live in the UK.  Our negative press is widespread.  What these surveys don’t realise is that we’ve got a lot of heart in Luton and great community spirit.

This weekend, we’ve had fantastic celebrations and the stage was open for performers of al genres from all backgrounds to showcase their talents.  I did some poetry and I also performed in a community play devised by Lutonians.  It has been such a blast!

I wrote a poem called ‘The Crowd Cheers’ a year ago.  Someone in the community was looking for positive voices / messages about our town.  At the time I was thinking about our local football team and I was also thinking about my own experience in Luton and how I’ve met great and inspiring people who support you to the end.

With all the buzz and excitement in town this weekend, I feel it is apt to share this poem now!!

The Crowd Cheers

We advance, together

Nimbly

Weaving our way around opposition

Striding steadily, surefooted

Marking our mark

We will not fail

WE ARE LUTON

In defence stands rows

Of solid structure

Shoulder – shoulder

Impenetrable

Withstanding attack like non-corrodible material

We are as mighty as warriors

WE ARE LUTON

The crowd cheers

A crowd made up of

Mothers and fathers, sisters, brothers, friends

A family, a community, our village

We are the players

We are the team

We are the voices cheering

We charge on the field

We shine on the stage

We command in the offices

We support each other

WE ARE LUTON
