You Are Blessed

Tribute to the Queen of My heart

My mother is a very special woman. This week, after over 50 years of dedication to the National Health Service, my mother has decided to retire. We are so proud of her as a family. She has worked tirelessly to support us. Now I am on a mission to celebrate her and plan happy, pleasurable and frivolous moments in her life.

I wrote ‘You are Blessed’ for my mum over 10 years ago.  At that time I was a younger woman seeking to go out into the world and set it alight.  I thought that my mother’s role of raising me had come to a close.  How wrong was I?  I’ve learnt that mothering doesn’t stop, it just takes a different form.  My mum remains to be so impactful, influential and inspirational to me in recent times and I love her for this!

You are Blessed

For Mumma

Proverbs 31:28 And her children shall rise up and call her blessed.

I have grown up but I won’t leave you

Even though I am preparing my own life

And it’s true we don’t know where that life will lead me

But we share a bond no distance can divide.

You’re right, I don’t need you in the ways I did before

And you may have felt an emptiness and somewhat obsolete

As I fought to fly our alone

I know you understand that I didn’t mean no harm, I just had to find my feet.

And now I think we ‘fit’ again

And I’ve had plenty of time to reflect

On your endless, uncompromising, unswerving love

I dread to think where we would be without your blood, tears, hard work and sweat.

Everybody knows this truth

They’ve admired your endurance and perseverance through all the trials and tests

You may well have felt alone and down at times unsure how things would end

You lacked so we wouldn’t and the testament of your success

Is the fact that your children call you BLESSED!!!
