Hope

This poem was born after spending time with my mum, talking about relationships.  Her hope and desire that I would find lasting love is so palpable.  I could sense the joy that it would bring her.  Finding happiness would mean so much, not only for myself but my mother and extended family and friends.

The good news is that mum hasn’t given up.  She still has hope!

Hope

Mumma wishes to be
Swept along with the
Throng in ecstasy.
Singing rousing choruses
Which raise the roof
As our joy cannot be contained.

We are elated
Floating upwards
You will notice
Bright eyes
Wide grins
A glowing countenance
As we beam
Heaven has come down on earth
Or have we crossed the threshold into heavenly realms
Gladness in every step.

There was a time when we felt empty
With nothing to share with the world
Not even a smile
There was a time when we averted gazes
Avoided company
When was that time?
We do not recall
As happiness has blotted away depression
Consumed it wholly like a predator
Rewarded for his prowess
All gone.

You will look as we flaunt our splendor
Before your face
You will be pleased for us
And direct good wishes our way.

This will be a fine day
We still have hope.
